Hm, first, few changes. I have moved my blog from Blogger to WordPress. Reason? Spam, the infinite amounts of African princesses whose father just died, but had left a letter in which he names me the sole heir of the empire, blahbladihblah. Second. This is probably the last post I write from Ireland (unless I write one tomorrow, or unless I come back, the latter being slightly less likely than the former), on Thursday I’m flying to the UK. For keepsies . Last. I had given this some thought, and having graduated my Arts degree and still being unemployed (the moving-to-the-UK part will remedy that part, hopefully), I have decided to change the direction of this blog and see where it takes me. I was thinking of doing it like a somewhat commentary-ish slash (/) this grinds my gears-ish thing. I do realize that there are literally millions upon millions of blogs just like this out there, but I guess I’m not doing it for the fame, as much as for the medicinal effect of having to rant somewhere at stuff that just makes me grit my teeth and utter the word “crumbs” which is a high ranking profanity in my fucked up world. I Guess it will go its own way and eventually turn out how I want it to.

Last few days I was being consumed by boredom, and I started to explore revision3.com. I have been no stranger to this website, and have been watching Tekzilla, a show for geeks and nerds of all races. I do have to admit that I like it pretty much, but I never paid any attention to the other shows revision3 produced. But add some cleaning needed to be done to boredom and presto, there you have a reason to watch anything. And that’s why I started watching Diggnation, systm & Tottaly Rad Show. I have to admit that I like them shows, they’re more interactive than any show of the same type (if any exists) on TV.

Hmm, I’m sorta tired and probably will go to sleep now.

Today is a sad day. My friend and I had a talk, and we conducted an authopsy of our friendship that is no more. I guess, I should’ve called her my ex-friend, but that is too brutal and detached. the “ex” implies that we ceased to love, but I don’t think that is the case. We were simply divided by an ever – growing mountain of differences. It became unsurmountable. I feel empty. I have lost someone, who was my confessor and a shoulder to lean on. I feel empty. I wonder if this could have been averted. But the choices we had made, and the paths we had taken brought us to this place, and the imminent degradation of what we had. I still hope. I hope for a resurrection, an amnesty, an amnesia…

It’s a sad day. I feel empty. It’s dark.

Weird post title. I’m watching Battlestar Galactica as I’m writing it, and Gaius Baltar was just saying something about the One God. Anyways. I haven’t been updating this blog as often as I was hoping to. Well it’s time to change. I have finished college and now I have no idea what to do with my life. It has been an eventful and stressful six months but I have to figure out where to go from now on. I have plans. I have dreams, but what will become of them? How the hell am I suppose to know. Time does bring answers, I hear, So, come on time, bring it on.

In the meantime I’ve flown back home to Poland for some two weeks, will be back on the 17th. I might use this time to think some things through, and believe me, there is a lot of thought material. First of all, I will be relocating to the UK to Krzysiek, who’s gone there almost a week ago. Since, we didn’t manage to get our life together in Ireland, we are going to try and kickstart it over there. Here’s hoping it will work, because I really want it to. We didn’t have luck before, and that led to a lot of tension and friction between us. We really need this, if we are to stay together. Love is hard, and the everything-will-be-ok-one-you’re-in-love crap is not true. But we are getting there.

Well, I better get some sleep. I probably won’t go to sleep tho. instead, I’ll watch some more BSG or even X-Men. BTW, I loved the new X-Men movie.

I just noticed a very disturbing thing. I have not had alcohol in so long, that after drinking a glass and a half of chardonnay I gave become somewhat tipsy. Whooptidoo.

I had some hardship with my computer lately and it wasn’t anything that I would enjoy. Basically sometime after the upgrade form Seven build 7057 to 7077 my pc froze, so I restarted as you do in such a situation. Bad idea, once the BIOS booted up it started beeping in its mournful voice. Apparently my

CMOS battery failed!

How annoying. So I salvaged a battery form a computer that ran Windows 98 and to my surprise it worked! So it would seem that three days after the warranty on my Dell expires the battery goes dead on me. Fun fact, the battery us supposed to be 3V, and when I checked the voltage on it, it was… 2.7V. And the other, older one had a perfect score of 3.33V. I face palmed as such: . Srsly, 0.3V of difference and the system goes haywire on me. bad system, BAD SYSTEM. But fine, changed the battery and everything worked fine. Super. However, unbeknownst to me, while replacing the battery, I must have unintentionally set the fasting on the CPU fan loose. And another 3 or so hours later CRASH! The fan dislodged form the heat sink and fell on my GPU. FELL. I’m lucky it didn’t damage anything, apart from giving my a fright, as the graphics on the PC went all weird and pinkish. So I opened it up again. Made sure everything’s nice and tight and here I am. Hopefully nothing else will come up destroying my computer.

I’m a PC and I’m proud of it.

I was watching some British TV today, and I saw one of the new MS ads, the one’s with kids and pictures. I didn’t know MS started a campaign in Britain, but I have to say, that it’s so much better than the Seinfeld Gates tandem and cuter than the shitty Hi. I’m a Mac crap. You go Microsoft.

Can I has RC1?

Ok, so in my last post I said that I have the Release Candidate 1 for Windows Se7en. I was wrong. An experience such as this teaches one not to believe in stuff posted on the internets. However I have noticed somewhat of a trend. Evreytime a new build “leaks”* out of Microsoft, someone throws the R-word (which as this stage has become a buzzword) on one forum or other and everyone must have the “leaked” build. Yeeeeeeeeeeenyways, I digress, The official date for the RC1 release has not yet been set, no to my knowledge at least. However it is said to be sometime in May. What we do know is that the RC1 of Win7 will be somewhat infuriating for some people to install as the guys at Redmond asked the beta testers to downgrade to Vista in order to UPGRADE to Seven. The reason they give is the need for feedback for any bugs that might occur during the upgrade process. I have to say that I understand this, as they’d need some “real life telemetry”, to quote from their blog, so they know if there’s anything that needs tweaking before the grand opening. What annoys me is the beta testers who get all oh-no-you-didn’t over that. They seem to forget that that’s why their called beta testers, to test the product, and if the guys at Win7 team need “real life telemetry” (this overblown style will never tire me, hiehie), the testers are there to provide such telemetry.

I have seen some bloggers saying stuff about the realease date of the RC and I don’t believe any of them. It’ll be out when it’s out, that’s my way of looking at it. ATM I’m running build 7077 and I have to say it’s very stable, not that the 7057 wasn’t. And I don’t think that much will change in the 71xx builds in respect of the normal end-user.

*( Just to clarify, I really don’t believe in this leaked thing. Not to say that I’m a conspirationist, but I think that these, leaks have been somewhat planned, to get better feedback. I might be wrong though, wouldn’t be the first time, and sure as hell, won’t be the last.

Windows Seven (RC1)

So, after much hardship and several BSODs I managed to get my Seven Beta copy upgraded form build 7000 (which is the original beta released some weeks ago) to build 7057, which, allegedly, is the RC1. I Have to say, I am impressed with the progress made by the guys in Redmond. And I am also beginning to see the direction where Seven is heading. Even in this early stage it is very functional and so much easier and comprehensive than XP or Vista, and the differences are visible at first glance. First off, most drivers are preinstalled, meaning, I don’t have to spend ages looking for those damn cds. And the whole installation process takes some 15 minutes as opposed to xp’s 40 mins or vista’s half an hour. All in all the RC! is a very stable release, and fun to test drive, I already replaced vista with it and will give it a good run.

I quit my job few days ago, mainly because my third year finals are looming ever so close, and I can’t be distracted by the corporate BS. And, also I really had to get out of that place, I was getting claustrophobic and I really, REALLY have an issue with the head person in the company. Something I won’t get into right now. At the moment, I’m doing some freelance computer repairs, to earn my living, and that’s looking pretty well. Fingers crossed.

Well, it’s all rather ladidah.

So I’m doing some long needed spring cleaning on my computer and I was forced to install iTunes to get my music folder sorted, cos, I had so many subfolders, some of them empty or invalid paths that I couldn’t find anything. And so, as I was installing iTunes, I said to myself, I might get Safari as well, seeing I’m already on apple.com. I did as I thought and here we go, I’m posting form Safari 3 (I can’t get used to 4′s new and ill-improved interface). iTunes is sorting out my whopping 45 GB of music one twelfth of which is probably duplicates or dead paths. I also played a bit with shell32.dll and pimped out my desktop and explorer.

I started playing Assassins’ Creed few days ago. I was trying to find time to play that game ever since it came out, and finally I did. To be bluntly frank, I got a bit thrown off with the whole playing out someone’s memories thing. Honestly,. for the first 30 minutes of playing the game, I wasn’t sure if it really is Assassins’ Creed. However, after having spent some time playing it, I must say, I do enjoy it, even though the whole hiding thing is dumb and the quests are a tad repetitive (after all what did I expect? Altair is an assassin, so he’s gonna go around killing people).

Next week is the Study Week in the College, so I’ve no lectures, but I have to go to work though. Meh, could be worse, at least I get two whole days off. Wheee. Part time my arse…

OMG OMG OMG (I know, a tad dramatic, but read on!). Krzysiek and I have decided to quit smoking, a noble idea, ya’ know, health, money, ability to smell things again. So I bought some Nicorette patches, and we stopped smoking on Thursday. I have to say, I am proud of myself, I have not had a cigarette since then and I’m starting to taste things better as well as my smell is coming back. But the patches, even though the miraculously stop the nicotine craving, do noting about the need to do something with my hands. So for the past five days, I’ve been groping at things, mostly pens and my phone; and people, only Krzysiek, I do have some boundaries. I really hope this works, because I’m tired of smoking, really. I was short of breath most of the time, and lost the sense of smell. Plus fags cost soooooooooooooo much I just can’t afford it anymore. Fingers crossed.

Another thing I wanted to mention is that I was doing some Polish – English interpreting today. It was for a school which had to communicate with the parents of none of the students, who had some problems. Long story short, I sat there for an hour and a half, jumping in and out one or the other language, which by the end of it, had me exhausted. Not half as exhausted aspissed off, though. I could not believe the position the school took on the whole thing. Agreed, they are trying to be helpful, but it seemed to me they were taking a completely wrong approach, blowing the whole thing out of proportion. And this little girl is in the middle of this and doesn’t know what to do. Kudos to the parents who did not cave in under the unreasonable pressure exercised on them by various institutions, whose aim is supposed to help the child, Yeah, right.

Argh, truly.

I had a pretty uneventful week, apart from, or should I say: Mostly due, to my absence in college, out of the ten lectures I had this week, I went to only 1 (one). And it wasn’t because I wanted to. I had to make a presentation, or an exposé, for my Discussion Litteraire class. Basically I had to prepare a presentation where I analyze a fragment of a book I am doing for one of my litterature courses. And the book I was talking about was La femme rompue by Simone de Beauvoir. Anyways, Julien, the lecteur, liked it, and I have to say that after two years of doing it, I finally got the hang of it, and I really liked what I prepared. I have a tutorial tomorrow but I don’t feel like going, especially seeing it’s my only class on Friday and its on at 11 am.

Another thing that has transpired is the ear infection of my boyfriend (I ask myself, can an ear infection transpire?). It started innocently enough, a zit in Krzysiek’s ear, but few days later his right side swelled up and it hurt. So after a lot of googling, loads of cups of herbal teas, he went to the doctor and got some antibiotics for it. And as it happens with Irish doctors, or should I call them shamans?, he barely looked at Krzysiek, poked him once with some infernal device and took 50 euro for the audience. Seriously, this pisses my off, he didn’t do enough to earn a fiver, and he charged tenfold that. And this is how most of GP operate. I am seriously surprised that anyone is alive in this country if the doctors are lazy idiots only in it for the money.

Apart from that nothing else happened, unless you count me giving the new Safari 4 beta a testdrive, its not so bad, but I much preferred the interface of Safari 3, and seeing that Safari 4 is like Chrome, except not as fast, reliable or userfriendly.

Meh I say.

So i was prowling through the t’internet and came to the conclusion that it does not surprise me anymore (sic!). This is a sad moment for me, the only other time it happened I started using Stumble Upon, but I sopped some weeks ago, cos I started getting addicted. In this case, i even went to /b/ on 4chan… nothing, no effect whatsoever. I think I’m getting old. I think I might actually read La femme rompue, by Simone de Bouvoir, one of the core texts for my French feminist writers course. But why has it come to this, I haven’t been spend a lot of time in fron of my computer, especially lately, what with Krzysiek moving in, exams and essays happening. Eh, I don’t know.

On the bright side, I passed my exams, nothing remarkable, though, but seeing that I was afraid of failing in one of the modules, I guess it’s all good. And the funny part is that I got the best mark in that exact module, i was freaking out about. Whoop Dee Doo.

Oh, I would’ve forgotten, i finally got my hands on The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. I was meaning to get to play that game ever since it came out, but I never got around to it. Well I have to say that the graphics are superb, far better than its predecessor, Morrowind, which I could never finish, seeing I got killed on every step. And the fact that I’m playing Fallout 3 at the same time, well it’s just makes it that much better, because, although, I have to admit the plot of F3 i great, I wasn’t too impressed with the whole post-nuclear decor. And with Oblivion, there’re trees, rivulets, butterflies, imps and zombies and very, very lifelike everything, maybe except the whole vampire thing, I definitely imagined vampires to be more, well, vampirish.

I can’t wait for Fable II to come out for PCs, I don’t have an xBox, and I certainly don’t care for one, but I loved the first game, it was pretty innovative for its time, and the whole story was not at all bad, although, I have to say, there was room for improvement.

From other news, I’m getting better at translations, especially the ones from English into French, I begun to like doing them again, after a phase of total dislike to anything French. Well, I guess that was caused by the damn thesis I had to write.

I’d also have to go and meet the head of Ancient Classics, to talk about going into postgrad, the results form this year’s exams are satisfactory and I should be able to get in, however I have to get some info about grants and other stipends, if I am to afford the tuition.
